SMPlayer is a Linux media player that was built by putting a graphical interface built on top of the MPlayer. Licensed under GNU GPLv2, Ricardo Villalba developed the Linux media player in 2006. Download os x iso image.

VLC seems to be able to play just about anything you throw at it, while still having a very small install size. It also has great streaming abilities, and can receive web streams and network streams as well. It also has a GUI.

MPlayer is still adored by many long-term Linux and open-source software users, and for good reason: it's great. You'll probably have to compile it from source to get a version you prefer, though.

A Kodi alternative for people who like slightly more modern user interfaces. It has a special installer that can get a Raspberry Pi microSD card set up in minutes, and it also supports streaming to other devices.

Chromium: web browser streaming

Using the default Raspbian web browser, you can access a world of content online from various video sources like YouTube, as well as stuff on your home network with the right add-ons.

RuneAudio: in-home music system

OMXPlayer: command-line player

This is great for having media play when you turn a Raspberry Pi on, or to control it from an SSH-connected remote computer. It makes use of minimal resources, while also being hardware-accelerated for great picture quality.

Included in clean installs of Windows 10 as well as upgrades to Windows 10 from Windows 8.1 or Windows 7. In some editions of Windows 10, it's included as an optional feature that you can enable. To do that, select the Start button, then select Settings > Apps > Apps & features > Manage optional features > Add a feature > Windows Media Player, and select Install.

Windows Media Components for QuickTime

If you want to reinstall Windows Media Player, try the following:

  1. Click the Start button, type features, and select Turn Windows features on or off.

  2. Scroll down and expand Media Features, clear the Windows Media Player check box, and click OK.

  3. Restart your device. Windows Media Player should be uninstalled.

  4. Repeat step 1.

  5. Scroll down and expand Media Features, select the Windows Media Player check box, and click OK.

  6. Restart your device. Windows Media player should now be reinstalled.
